Thursday 6th December
We visited Haddon Hall today near Bakewell. Below is an excerpt from the leaflet written by Lord and Lady Edward Manners…
“for three hundred years the Hall was quiet, waiting for its family to return…..It was as if it had been enchanted, a fairytale castle lost in time, waiting to be re-awoken…….they did not call it Haddon Hall, they called it “The Sleeping Beauty”….”
Our group were saying how beautiful the Hall is but not in an opulent or a materialistic way.We listened to bell ringers in a hall decorated with roses and sat around a fire where we were read a poem – 12 Days of Christmas, written by John Julian Norwich.Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel were also there as the Hall’s Christmas theme is Sleeping Beauty and Other Tales.A very enjoyable visit and some of the group said they would like to visit in the summer to look at the garden in bloom. Also thank you to those who gave people lifts and did the driving.
Thursday 29th November 2018
As agreed at the November meeting the next outing will be on Thursday 6 December to Haddon Hall. Haddon Hall will be dressed for Christmas on a fairy tale theme with hand bells and carol singers during the day.
We will meet in the Oasis/BUPA/Market Place car park at 10.30 a.m. to sort out transport, remember we are car sharing. The entrance charge is £15.00 . Please let me know whether or not you are coming, also if you would be prepared to drive. As my old iPad is playing up, I am unable to access all the Travel Group contacts so please pass on this email to anyone who may be interested in coming.
The next monthly Travel Group meeting will be on Thursday 3 January.

Travel Group trip to Chester 29/09/2018
Due to heavy road works we took the scenic route via Bakewell and across country , it was a beautiful day and from the height of the coach were privileged to see Derbyshire in all its autumn glory .
Dropping other passengers at the Cheshire Oaks shopping outlet we travelled on to the city of Chester arriving around twelve noon ,a little later than planed due to those pesky orange cones that seem to have taken over the motorways.
Once in Chester we all melted into the melee of a Saturday which happened to be Race Day ,young men in suits along side pretty young ladies wearing evening gowns with baseball boots ? (How very sensible and fun ) as they mingled with shoppers and sightseers alike.
Some of us visited the cathedral and walked the city walls , and even found the time to finish the day with a river cruise, the weather being kind to us we were able to sit comfortably on the open top deck . Then strolling through the park to the shops buying a sandwich to munch on the way home ,
Although arriving back later than hoped , I think we all had a pleasant if somewhat tiring day
Thankyou Pat, Janice and Sandie
