Walking for Pleasure Group will be taking to the Peak District hills next Tuesday 13thAugust when, after parking at Curbar Gap (parking fee), we will amble across the edges of Baslow, Gardoms, stopping for refreshments at the Robin Hood before returning via Birchens Edge.

However if the present inclement weather persists then an alternative will be to park in  Ashford before walking up Pennyunck Lane to Monsal Head, through the dale, returning to Ashford via Shacklow Woods for a welcome cream tea at the café in the village.

Both are approximately 6 miles. Wear suitable walking boots & clothing as it will be wet underfoot in places & there are some stiles.

Meet at 10am prompt at Bolsover Cenotaph where we will decide on walk and car sharing.

Monday 15th July 2019

The Walk held on 9th July was arranged for Hardwick led by Maggie.  Sadly only two members arrived to take part, nevertheless we had a very nice walk round all the fishing ponds up to the hall cafe for hot chocolate and then back down via the woods and Duck Decoy back to car.  Approx 3.5 miles.  A very pleasant walk.  Many thanks to Maggie.

The next Walk will be led by Pam, in the Peak District.  The venue will be weather dependant.  So watch this space.

Tuesday 2nd July 2019

The walking for pleasure group will be meeting on  Tuesday 9th July,  10am at the Cenotaph, Bolsover. Suggested walk is from Ault Hucknell Church to Hardwick for a coffee and back. Approx 4 miles.  Car sharing is available.

Saturday 10th May 2019

The Walking Group will meet at 10 am on Tuesday 14th May at the Cenotaph in Bolsover.

We will then travel by cars to Eckington Church where we will have a nice stroll through the woodland to Ford, Ridgeway. Toilets and drinks at the Bridge Inn, then back to Eckington Church to return home. Easy walk but could be muddy in places. Hopefully there will be plenty of nice flowers to see on the way.

Tuesday 9th April 2019

We had a walk to Ambergate, starting at Cromford along the canal towpath. There were five members walking in absolutely perfect weather. Spring really had sprung we saw lots of bluebells, wood anemones and many other flowers. Some very beautiful properties which we all envied, if we are missing one month then you know we have all relocated.
There were a few ducks with very young ducklings, a moorhen on her nest and a swan on her nest with husband by her side.
The walk was approximately five and three quarter miles, with a very pleasant train journey back to car park.
Everyone enjoyed the day, the walk, the company and meeting some really nice people and dogs on the way.
All looking forward to the next walk which will be on May 14th starting at Eckington Church and walking through to Ford, Ridgeway hopefully for a pint and back through the woods. Not a very long walk and mainly flat.

Sunday 7th  April 2019

The Walking for Pleasure group will be meeting on Tuesday 9th April at Cenotaph Bolsover 10.00 am. We aim to car share to Cromford (Car parking fee will be needed) then walk along the Canal tow path to Ambergate. (Anyone who feels that the five miles is too much for them can stop at Whatstandwell) We will then catch a train back to Cromford (train fare needed) where we can all meet up again, maybe take some time to look around etc, before heading back to Bolsover.

Everyone is welcome to join us.

Monday 18th March 2019

The next walk will be,  Tuesday 9th April, from Cromford Mill, (car parking fee). We will walk along the canal towards Ambergate. Anyone who wants to walk but finds this too far can leave the walk at Whatstandwell. We will then catch a train back to Cromford.
Trains leave Ambergate at ten past every hour at a cost of £3.70.
Everyone to meet at Bolsover Cenotaph 10 am to sort out car share.

Tuesday12th March

It has been decided that todays walk is cancelled due to the weather. Not only getting wet but getting blown off our feet and dangerous under trees. Will do this walk at a later date.

more information will follow.

Friday 8th March

We meet again on Tuesday 12th March for our fifth walk. We will be meeting in the usual place at Bolsover Cenotaph, 10am and depending on transport availability we will be going to Linacre (Car park charges apply) to start a walk around the reservoirs. It will be a short walk this month of only 3/4 miles, but should be very pleasant with everything starting to come to life for spring. There are toilets but no catering facilities so please feel free to bring drinks etc.

February 13th 2019

The walk was very pleasant with perfect weather for walking. Started at Langwith station car park and walked along a lane. Didn’t cross a field due to mud. One very high style was encountered but everyone got over it with difficulty. Walked down to Cuckney Cotton Mill, cross main road and through woods back to Langwith where some of the group went to the cafe others went to the Gate Inn for a carvery.
There were nine walkers, one of which was a non-member trying out before joining.
Everyone was very happy with the walk and said that they had enjoyed. Big thanks to Val for leading, great job as usual.

January 9th 2019

The weather was sunny and quite warm for the time of year. Everyone enjoyed the walk. Next walk is on Tuesday 12th February, walking from Langwith round Cuckney Wood, weather permitting. Leader will be Val.
